Crafty Creations and Dodgeball Dashes: Fun Times at Lions Hope Home

“A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.” —Amelia Earhart

Our visits to Lions Hope Home are always a ball, and we’re not just talking dodgeball! Through the Beautiful Ones Project, we’ve had the joy of sharing moments filled with creativity, laughter, and a few pops of excitement. All we need is a guitar, some chart paper, and a football (plus, some time)! Here’s a look at the playful, crafty adventures we’ve had in the past few months.

July Joy with Dodgeball and Paper Pets

In July, we hit the ground running—literally—with an energetic game of dodgeball. The kids were darting, and dashing, turning the game into a lively showdown of agility. There was no shortage of laughter as they ducked and threw with fierce (but friendly) determination.

Once the dodgeball dust settled, we shifted gears into craft mode, creating colourful crocodiles out of chart paper. Little hands cut, folded, and glued, bringing these paper reptiles to life. Each crocodile had its own flair, with some boasting bright stripes and others with even wings and a horn! We even had a roaring good time singing songs, turning the room into a cheerful chorus of creativity.

Visit 2: October Popping Fun and Bouncy Springs

Our October visit was a burst of excitement—literally! After another round of dodgeball, we introduced a new game: burst the balloon. The kids squealed with delight, competing to see who could pop their balloon the fastest (and loudest!). The popping sounds were rivalled only by the peals of laughter that filled the room.

Next, it was back to the crafting table for a spring-tastic activity: making bouncy springs from chart paper. The children were fascinated as their creations transformed into paper springs that bounced and wiggled. They cheered each other on as their springs leapt higher and higher, turning a simple craft into a fun-filled science experiment.

Join the Fun and Make a Difference

Through the Open Hands Project, we also raise funds and collect gifts in kind for much-needed stationery supplies, ensuring these kids are ready for the school year.
